According to a new report, Samsung could be upgrading a core component of its Galaxy S23 smartphone lineup. According to GalaxyClubNL, the phone will have a 12MP selfie camera, up from the 10MP that Galaxy phones have had for a few years. In the Galaxy S series, the front-facing camera has remained the same (the Galaxy S22 Ultra has a 40MP selfie camera).
The good news is that if you’ve been waiting for an upgrade, Samsung could finally deliver one in 2023 with the Galaxy S23, which could feature a 12MP camera. Granted, it’s still not as good as that of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, but it’s certainly better than nothing. Having a higher resolution can benefit you a lot more since front-facing cameras are mostly used for video calls or selfies.
Despite the fact that the exact components may have changed, and that significant software improvements have improved selfie performance, it is still exciting to hear we might be getting a raw resolution boost. Even if nothing changes, this could lead to better selfies with smartphones that already perform well on this front. However, there is still a lot of room for improvement.
Galaxy S23 is becoming increasingly popular, although it will still be some time between now and the expected launch in early 2023. As usual, the camera system of the upcoming Samsung flagship series is the most discussed. I particularly like the 200MP camera on the S23 Ultra. Despite this, many of us seem to forget that the FBI’s favorite camera for spying on our daily lives is the front-looking camera.
The selfie camera isn’t getting enough attention, even from Samsung. The Galaxy S10 series has retained the same front-facing camera that was introduced in 2019. According to a report from GalaxyClub, Sammy might finally upgrade the selfie camera with the Galaxy S23 series. The report points to the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ having a new 12MP front-facing camera, which is a 2MP jump from the current one.
Under-display cameras (UPCs) are becoming more common, and if Samsung is redesigning its flagship phone’s selfie camera, it might be time to switch to a different format altogether. Samsung hasn’t made any official statements about moving in this direction, but that’s no surprise: it won’t be long before we hear official information about the phone.
