If you’ve ever felt that your iPhone’s lock screen customization options are a bit too limited, then you’re not alone. At least not yet. Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering, said during the unveiling of iOS 16 at the conference: “The redesigned lock screen is undeniably iPhone, but with updated ways to make it more personal, stylish, and useful than ever.” The Apple Developers Conference.

As a result of the updated lock screen options, your phone is more immediately useful and more visually appealing when you pick it up. The available options for customizing the interface are similar to those available on the Apple Watch. You can now make the subjects of your photos stand out from the background with a new depth effect.

You can also change the background to take pictures of your pets or loved ones to stand out even more. Alternatively, you can create a wallpaper gallery that lets you change your lock screen image easily, or set it to play randomly at different times throughout the day. Lock screens are easy to customize. Touch and hold to test and customize, and swipe to experiment with different colors, filters, fonts, and timings.

In addition to this, the Apple brand promises that its lock screen will take up more space when you’re listening to music. In addition to aesthetics, you will now be able to add widgets to your lock screen. With a glance, you can view more information about the temperature, activity, or your calendar.

In order to avoid blocking your photos, notifications will now appear at the bottom of the lock screen. App creators will be able to create these live, viewable experiences thanks to Apple’s updated Live API, which allows live updates about your ride, food delivery, or workout progress.
