WABetaInfo reports that after October 24, 2022, the app will no longer receive updates for iOS 10 and 11. This message is most relevant to people using an IPhone 5 and 5C. , two older phones that can’t be updated to newer versions of iOS.

The company has not confirmed the reports, but WhatsApp is reportedly sending messages to iOS 10 and 11 users informing them that support will end in October.

There comes a time with apps when support for less commonly used devices and software updates is discontinued, usually so developers can focus on updates and new products. According to the WhatsApp support center, it is officially compatible with iOS 12 and above.

Check out our list of the most suitable iPhones for an upgrade if you own an iPhone 5 or 5C. Some features may have already stopped working on iOS 11, or some apps may have stopped supporting iOS 11 and earlier.

If you have an iPhone 5S, you can run iOS 12 on it. For now, you will be safe, but at the very least we hope WhatsApp will support iOS 13 soon.

Weeks from now, Apple’s WWDC developer conference will reveal what iOS 16 means for its iPhones. This could cause WhatsApp and other developers to look at other breakpoints for older versions.

Even so, if WhatsApp is an app you can’t live without, it may be time to think about how to use it by the end of October.
