Vivo announced its Vivo X80 and Vivo X80 Pro smartphones earlier this year, essentially picking up where the X70 Pro and X70 Pro Plus left off. Vivo’s high-end phones for 2022 have been launched globally today.
In comparison to last year’s Vivo X70 and Vivo X70 Pro, the standard X80 is significantly more powerful. Dimensity 9000 is a higher-end chipset that should be able to compete well with the Snapdragon. Additionally, the X80 offers a 6.78-inch FHD+ 120Hz E5 OLED display, a 4500mAh battery, and 80W wired charging. Among the other features, you should know about are an in-display fingerprint sensor, dual stereo speakers, and an NFC V1 Plus chip.
Vivo’s standard phone also comes equipped with a triple rear camera setup, consisting of a 50MP IMX866 main camera (RGBW sensor, with OIS), a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 12MP 2x telephoto lens. Selfies are taken with a 32MP camera. These cameras don’t have micro gimbal stabilization.
According to Vivo, the Vivo X80 Pro variant will be available in Europe, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. In the meantime, the standard X80 will be available in Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Southeast Asia, and Taiwan. Vivo also confirmed that the X80 series will receive three generations of Android OS updates, but only three years of them. This includes security patches.
Vivo X80 8GB/128GB starts at Rs 54,999 (*$709) in India, while the 12GB/256GB variant costs Rs 59,999 (~$774). A 12GB/256GB X80 Pro will cost you Rs 79,999 (*$1,037), the same price as the X70 Pro Plus in the region. Prices are not yet available in Europe.
A number of upgrades have been added to the X80 Pro compared to last year’s well-received X70 Pro Plus, including improved power, battery capacity, and charging speed. As we saw in China, the global model is equipped only with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1
There is also a 6.78-inch QHD+ 120Hz LTPO OLED panel, a 4,700mAh battery, 80W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and an IP68 rating.
At first glance, Vivo’s Pro model appears to have a lot in common with the X70 Pro Plus. There is a 50MP main camera (Isocell GNV), a 48MP ultra-wide camera, a 2x 12MP portrait camera, and a 5x 8MP periscope lens. However, Vivo has decided to shift the micro gimbal stabilization system from the ultra-wide lens to the 2x camera. Despite this, you still get a similar 32MP selfie camera on the front.Additionally, the X80 Pro offers some camera modes that are worth noting, including a camera pan mode, a night sports mode, and video bokeh.
Other specs worth noting include dual stereo speakers, NFC, the V1 Plus imaging chip, and Fun Touch OS 12.1 on top of Android 12. The most impressive addition, however, is the in-display 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor (as seen in the screenshot). In contrast to traditional on-screen scanners, it covers a much wider area. More specifically, Vivo says it covers 11 times the area of other fingerprint scanners and offers one-touch enrollment.
